Dr Sylvia Blood
PhD, PG Dip Clin Psych, MNZCCPsych Registered Clinical Psychologist
Sylvia graduated from the University of Auckland with a Doctorate of Philosophy in 1998. She holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology. She has fifteen years of clinical experience including work in community mental health settings, University student counselling service, Specialist Services (Department of Social Welfare) and in private practice providing clinical services and supervision. She is a specialist report writer for the Family Court. Sylvia has tutored and lectured at University level and been involved in the training of clinical psychology students, psychologists and community mental health workers. She has links to mental health services and community groups in the Auckland and Waikato regions.
Sylvia has extensive experience working with women, men and adolescents with eating difficulties. She has a PhD in this field and her publications include a recent book on the social construction of women's body image. She is a clinical advisor for the CASA Towards Wellbeing programme providing clinical expertise to social workers assisting them in identifying, assessing and managing young people at risk of self-harm/suicide. This work incorporates suicide prevention, training and supervision.
