Sandra Palmer

Registered Psychologist

Sandra Palmer graduated in 1992 from University of Auckland with a MA (Hons) in  Psychology.  She was awarded a University of Auckland Doctoral Fellowship and completed 9 months of a PhD in psychology before deciding that her passion was in clinical work, not research.   Sandra later completed post graduate papers in Child and Adolescent Mental Health at the University of Auckland Medical School.

Sandra has been a Registered Psychologist for 12 years.  She has wide experience in a variety of roles:  she has been a community based research to city councils, written psychology based journal articles for NZ Doctor magazine, has been a in private practice as an ACC registered counselor, been a trainer of counselors and group facilitators and provided supervision to school counselors and counselors.  She has tutored psychology at University level and facilitated groups in a wide variety of settings.   She has also spent the last two years working for the Towards Well Being Suicide Consultation and Monitoring Programme, providing clinical expertise to social workers around at risk young people.

As an ACC trauma therapist, Sandra's specialty area in clinical practice was working with the impact of trauma on adolescents and young people (and their families if appropriate).  She was able to work effectively with at risk young people in both an individual and group capacity.  Sandra was based at Youthline House and developed an interest and knowledge in working and training the voluntary sector as well as developing working relationships with government agencies.

Sandra is a the Clinical Manager of the Community Postvention Response Service and is also a Clinical Advisor on the Toward Well Being programme.
