Tracey Barnfield

Tracey Barnfield completed a Masters with first class honours (1995) a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology (1997). She has worked in a range of clinical roles including mental health inpatient units, community mental health services, Consultation Liaison Psychiatry service and in her own private practice. She worked as a half-time academic Psychologist at the University of Otago Wellington School of Medicine and Health Sciences for 7 years. Her clinical work involved providing assessment and treatment services for tangata whaiora / consumers with a range of mental health disorders and psychiatric conditions secondary to major medical conditions.
She has worked as a clinical advisor for the Toward Well Being Suicide Consultation and Monitoring programme for over 5 years, providing clinical expertise to assist CYFS Social Workers to identify, assess and manage risk for young people at high risk of suicide and providing advice, containment and management of potential clusters following a completed suicide.
In her role as a lecturer, Tracey has developed and delivered specialist training in evidenced based therapies for mental health professionals, medical students, overseas trained doctors and Psychiatric Registrars.
Tracey has extensive experience in supervising Clinical Psychologists, other mental health professionals and CYFS Social Workers. Tracey has been involved in organising training workshops and conferences for her professional organisation, The New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists. She has presented her research results at international conferences and has published articles in internationally referred journals. Tracey is a director of CASA.
