QPR stands for "Question, Persuade and Refer". QPR is an evidence-based suicide prevention training model.
CASA is exclusively licenced by the QPR Institute to provide QPR services in New Zealand. These are delivered and managed under the name QPR New Zealand. Offered at three levels, QPR New Zealand has programmes appropriate for all. These can be found on our QPR New Zealand web site at http://www.qpr.org.nz/.
For institutions, clinical supervision is a highly valuable resource that ensures the best welfare of clients and staff. CASA has developed an innovative clinical supervision training programme that utilises the latest research.
Our training ensures your clinical supervision is safe, efficient and assists health professionals to meet their professional requirements. In the training we recommend the use of Competency Based Supervision. Our material has been sourced and developed to be relevant to a wide range of health disciplines (e.g., nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, psychologists and doctors).
Our Clinical Supervision Training (CST) courses provide an interactive learning experience. Completion of a course requires evidence of learning.
The CST Introductory and CST Advanced courses are designed with an understanding of the specific working conditions and demands of District Health Boards. They can be easily tailored to suit other institutional environments.

CASA's multi-disciplinary team develop and deliver face-to-face and computer based training programmes in the areas of:
- general mental health
- related depression
- suicide prevention
- suicide postvention
- suicide and youth offending
- imprisonment/incarceration and suicide
While much of our training is specifically directed at psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurses, counsellors, social workers, etc., they are not the only groups who can benefit from our mental health training programmes.
Most mental health issues first present to people who are not mental health professionals. For these people proper training is essential in developing the necessary awareness and understanding of mental health issues, and being able to exercise proper handling and appropriate referral to professionals. The people below are often put in the position of being the interface between those suffering from mental health and the professionals:
- General practitioners
- DHB emergency department staff
- School principals, teachers and counsellors
- Police, Corrections and Probation staff
- Case workers such as WINZ staff, truancy officers, Housing New Zealand staff
- Ambulance staff and paramedics
- Clergy and undertakers.
